Shiver me timbers! Hugh Laurie to play Blackbeard in first major TV role since closing the door on House

Hugh Laurie is set to star as notorious pirate Blackbeard in his first major TV role since the end of the medical drama House.

Laurie, 53, will star as Blackbeard who had a fearsome reputation for violence during the cut throat age of piracy in the 1700s.

The NBC series takes place on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas where Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, oversees a mini empire.
The drama will allow Laurie to keep his normal British accent for the first time in eight years.
The actor had to perfect an American accent to play cranky Dr House in the hit medical drama which made Laurie one of the highest paid TV stars.
His portrayal of Dr Gregory House earned him two Golden Globe awards and six Emmy nominations as well as an estimated $18m a year.
Filming in Hollywood from 2004 until earlier this year reportedly left Laurie homesick.
His wife and children remained in their North London home while making regular trips to Los Angeles.

The new pirate series has been written by Neil Cross who created the crime series Luther.
It is based on the book The Republic of Pirates which details the golden age of piracy in the 1700s.
Blackbeard became known for his fearsome appearance with gun fuses lit and placed in his hair.
But historians say there is no record of the pirate ever harming any of the sailors he captured during his two years roaming the Caribbean.
He died in 1718 after being tracked down to a small island off North Carolina and was shot during a battle with British troops.

24.11.2012 в 16:14я почему-то думаю, что образ будет несколько пересмотрен )))) вон в статье написано, что нет ни одного факта, что он жестоко обращался с пленными матросами... подумаешь, страшная наружность... )))) Хаус тоже всех пугал манерами, а вон каким душкой был!))))) так что боюсь, что как раз будет в чем-то напоминать Хауса.... ))
